Swivl Expands Cloud Offering to Assure International Customers of Privacy

It’s important to inspire curiosity and increase engagement amongst students. It is more important, however, to do so while complying with privacy laws.

As of January 2017, Swivl offers localized international video storage in the UK, Australia, Singapore, and Canada. This means that video content created by Team Accounts in these countries and stored on Swivl’s servers is treated by the standards set by their local governments.

Protecting student privacy has been important to Swivl since the beginning. Swivl signed the Student Privacy Pledge, along with 324 other edtech signatories. This pledge is meant to to safeguard student privacy regarding the collection, maintenance, and use of student personal data. That’s not all, Swivl is FERPA and COPPA compliant. Under FERPA, recordings of students are considered educational records. This means that the videos you and your students capture for school—videos where they are shown in an identifiable way—cannot be made publicly available or used by third parties in any way. As for COPPA, in addition to all personal identifiers, details such as hobbies, photos, video, screen names, IP addresses and location data are also protected.

Now you can use video in your school with the confidence that you know data is being protected. Want to know more about how to deploy Swivl with a team and lead to skill development to your whole institution? Talk to one of our customer success team members today.
