The latest M2 web release gives educators more control over how they get feedback from an M2 Activity. Start with the transcript, choose the moments that matter, and decide whether to generate rubric-based Feedback or create a shareable video/audio Clip. Comments and more encouraging Takeaways help turn those moments into opportunities for reflection and conversation.

These changes are in response to requests we’ve heard directly from you, our customers: more flexibility in deciding when feedback happens and what it covers.

Start with the Record, then choose your next step

Educators approach post lesson feedback with different questions. A teacher may want to revisit how a discussion unfolded. A faculty member may want to examine a particular explanation. A teacher candidate and supervisor may want to focus on one part of a lesson together.

The new experience begins with My Record, where educators can review a transcript organized into sections, alongside video when available. Teachers and Group managers can select the sections they want to explore before deciding what to generate, reports or clips.

Rubric scores no longer appear automatically for the entire session. This gives educators room to review what happened and choose the focus and timing of their feedback.

For those who want a report on the whole session, that option remains available: select all sections, choose Feedback, and generate the report. The added selection step supports both a broad review and a closer look into a specific moment.

Capture a moment or explore it through feedback

Sometimes the next step is to save an example. Sometimes it is to examine that example through a rubric.

From My Record, educators now have two options:

Clip: Creates a card with a quote and the selected transcript, plus video when available, that can be shared through a public link.

Feedback: Creates a clip with a rubric report using the active rubrics for the Group’s type. Advanced settings let educators turn rubrics and metrics on or off for that report.

This makes it possible to share an instructional example without generating a report, or to request focused feedback on the part of a session connected to an educator’s current goal.

Each time an educator selects Generate, M2 creates a new card for the dashboard. A Clip cannot have a report added to it later; to explore that selection through a rubric, generate a separate Feedback card.

Keep the conversation connected to the evidence

A useful coaching conversation often begins with a specific example: a question, an explanation, or an exchange worth revisiting.

Logged-in educators can now comment on individual Clip and Feedback report cards. Teachers can add their own perspective, and coaches or colleagues can respond with questions and observations alongside the material being discussed.

Comments belong to the clip or Feedback report, giving each conversation a clear focus. Viewers who are logged out can read comments but must log in to contribute.

Takeaways that encourage reflection

Takeaways should help educators recognize strengths and identify something worth exploring next. In this release, we’ve made continued improvements to the Takeaways each educator receives. The Takeaways are designed to make the next step feel approachable and connected to the educator’s work.

Generating a Feedback report updates Takeaways. Creating a Clip alone does not change them.

Other improvements across M2

This release also includes several practical refinements:

More room for Group names: Names can now contain up to 60 characters.

Clearer Coherence Prompt history

A clearer privacy cue: A lock icon identifies teacher-private Chat with M2.

Easier card management: Card actions include renaming, copying links, downloading transcripts, and deleting clips or reports.

Older activities retain their original My Feedback card and also display My Record. New activities use My Record with the Clip and Feedback cards educators choose to generate. This release applies to the web experience only for now.

More control over the next conversation

Across K–12 and higher education, educators need opportunities to examine their practice with a purpose. That purpose may call for reviewing an entire session, looking closely at one exchange, or sharing an example with a colleague.

This release gives educators more choice in how they move from a record of their work to feedback, reflection, and conversation. The starting point is the evidence. Educators decide what to explore next.

M2 6.0 is now available across web, mobile, and the M2 device. This release helps M2 better understand the work happening in each Group, whether it is a classroom, PLC, training, staff meeting, 1-on-1, or evaluation and provide more relevant support before, during, and after each session.

It also makes reflection easier to complete, brings mobile video recording to every user, and gives leaders clearer insights into instructional practice across their Teams and Sites.

Support that adapts

Different learning environments require different kinds of support. A classroom does not operate like a staff meeting, and a PLC should not be evaluated in the same way as a 1-on-1 conversation.

With M2 6.0, educators and leaders can select from six New Group types when creating new groups:

Classroom

Training

Staff meeting

PLC

1-on-1

Evaluation

From the Admin Panel, Leaders and Coaches can create rubrics that can be applied to specific Group types, and the Tips users receive adjust based on the setting applied. The Evaluation Group type also creates a dedicated space for evaluation-focused work, either from Leaders or for Teachers practicing for formal observations.

This added context helps M2 provide support that is more relevant to the purpose of each conversation or learning environment.

Takeaways that show shared understanding

Takeaways now bring together what developed across the full learning experience: the activity that occurred, the user’s Personal Reflection, and student thinking.

Instead of treating each source as a separate piece of information, Takeaways show the shared understanding that emerged across them. Educators can see what participants understood, connect that evidence to their own reflection, and identify clearer next steps for instruction.

Stronger insights for leaders and coaches

M2 6.0 gives Leaders and Coaches more ways to understand instructional practice without reducing it to a single score.

Teams can customize rubrics at the Team or Site level, making feedback more relevant to local priorities. Team Admin insights now include quantitative metrics such as talk time and question counts alongside Reflection Depth of Knowledge insights.

Together, these signals help leaders recognize patterns, understand how educators are engaging with their practice, and identify where additional support may be useful.

A lighter approach to Personal Reflection

Reflection should help educators make sense of their instruction, not feel like another task to complete.

Personal Reflections now use shorter, more focused questions based on the experience. An updated Stop/Continue flow also lets educators choose how many questions they want to answer, giving them more control over the depth and length of each reflection.

The result is a lighter experience that educators can complete while the experience is still fresh.

Reflections return to mobile devices

Participant Reflection Assignments and Personal Reflections are once again available on iOS and Android.

Teachers and students can now complete reflections from the device that is most convenient for them, making it easier to capture thinking in the moment rather than waiting until they return to a computer.

Record observation video from any mobile device

Educators can now record video directly from an iOS or Android phone or tablet, without connecting additional hardware.

Improvements across the experience made using recording more reliable from start to finish. This gives more users a simple way to capture evidence of their instruction wherever learning happens.

Find video faster

When video is available, My Feedback cards now display a video thumbnail directly on the cover.

This small change makes recorded sessions easier to recognize and revisit, helping teachers move more quickly between feedback and the moments that produced it.

Why this release matters

The most useful feedback begins with context.

By understanding the type of work happening in each Group and connecting what happened during an activity with reflection and student thinking, M2 can provide support that is more relevant to educators and more meaningful to leaders.

M2 6.0 brings that context together while making it easier for everyone to record, reflect, and turn everyday learning experiences into evidence for growth.

Every great lesson starts with intention. Teachers plan with clear goals, meaningful activities, pacing decisions, instructional strategies, and the needs of their students in mind. But once teaching begins, even the best lesson plan can be hard to hold onto in real time.

That is why we built lesson plan upload for M2.

With this new feature, teachers can upload a lesson plan before they teach with M2. From there, M2 can use the plan as context to provide live tips and suggestions during instruction, then generate feedback after the lesson that is directly aligned to what the teacher intended to teach.

This is an important step toward what schools need most: coherence. M2 is designed to help bring curriculum, teaching, and school priorities together into one connected experience, so teachers are not receiving generic AI support or disconnected feedback. Instead, they receive guidance that reflects the lesson, the instructional goals, and the work actually happening in the classroom.

Why we built it

In many classrooms, coaching, feedback, curriculum implementation, and instructional improvement can feel like separate efforts. Lesson plan upload helps close that gap.

By allowing M2 to understand the lesson before instruction begins, the support becomes more relevant, more specific, and more connected to the teacher’s actual goals. M2 can help teachers stay aligned to the lesson they planned, reflect on whether key content was covered, and identify opportunities to strengthen instruction based on the strategies already embedded in the plan.

For school and district leaders, this also supports a more coherent instructional experience. When teachers use M2 with lesson plans, feedback can connect more clearly to curriculum expectations, instructional priorities, and classroom evidence. That creates better coaching conversations, more actionable reflection, and a clearer view of how planned instruction translates into practice.

How it works

Using the feature is simple:

Upload your lesson plan before teaching with M2.

Teach your lesson with M2 or M2 App active in the classroom.

Receive live tips and suggestions aligned to the lesson plan.

Review feedback after teaching that connects directly to the lesson goals, pacing, activities, and instructional strategies.

During the lesson, M2 can use the uploaded plan to provide more relevant in-the-moment support. After the lesson, M2 can generate feedback that helps the teacher understand how the lesson unfolded compared to what was planned.

What’s in it for teachers?

When M2 has access to the lesson plan, the feedback becomes grounded in the actual instructional context. They are receiving feedback tied to the lesson they prepared and the learning experience they delivered.

That can help teachers answer questions like:

Did I keep pace with the lesson?

Did I cover the key material I planned to teach?

Where did students have the most opportunity to engage?

Which instructional strategies showed up in practice?

What could I adjust the next time I teach this lesson?

This kind of feedback is especially powerful because it is timely, contextual, and immediately useful. Teachers can reflect while the lesson is still fresh and make practical adjustments for tomorrow.

What we learned from our pilot

Before releasing this feature publicly, we piloted it with ESUCC, a state education agency in Nebraska. Teachers uploaded a series of lesson plans, used M2 while teaching, received live tips, and then reviewed feedback that was detailed and aligned to their plans.

The pilot confirmed what we hoped: when M2 understands the lesson plan, the feedback feels more relevant to the teacher’s actual classroom experience.

One teacher using the Wit & Wisdom curriculum shared that “the feedback was very specific to this particular lesson” and that “most of my feedback was very specific to a certain question or task that I asked.”

That is exactly the kind of support we want M2 to provide: not abstract feedback, but feedback that helps teachers see their own lesson more clearly.

Why this is exceptional

AI in education is only useful when it understands context. M2 is designed to connect what was planned, what happened during instruction, and what a teacher can do next. Lesson plan upload makes that connection stronger.

Teachers can enter the classroom with a plan, receive support while teaching, and leave with feedback that helps them reflect, adjust, and grow. For administrators and coaches, this creates a clearer bridge between curriculum implementation and classroom practice.

That is what makes this an exceptional addition to M2: it brings planning, teaching, feedback, and improvement into one more coherent experience.

Mirrortalk 2.0 is coming March 18th, it is the next evolution of Mirrortalk and we’re calling it M2. It brings together instructional support, feedback, reflection, and boosting participation into a simpler, more coherent experience across web, mobile, and the M2 device.

This release helps teachers make every tier of instruction great and participation visible, giving stronger support in the moments that matter most, both during and after class.

Real-time support

M2 will deliver immediate, actionable tips, on-demand. Throughout the class, teachers can click for immediately actionable tips based on best practices to support Tier 1 and Tier 2 instruction. Based on the context of the class, M2 can generate a guided high-impact learning activity for teachers to walk students through or opt in to have M2 guide the class through an audio experience.

Teachers can also have input on the types of tips or interactions they need at the moment to support all student needs. Now, teachers can request a check for understanding, a discussion question, or classroom management suggestion as tips with the tap of a button.

A dashboard that turns class into next steps

After every class, teachers need clarity–not just more data.

The new M2 dashboard is organized around My Takeaways: a concise summary of what went well and what to improve next time. Feedback is broken down by chunks of the lesson (warm-up, instruction, group work, wrap-up), so teachers can connect insights to real moments they remember. Each activity is also given a participation score, teachers can use this as feedback for how Tier 1 and Tier 2 instruction is landing with students.

Teachers can:

View feedback alongside the class transcript, in context

See which instructional moves mattered most and where engagement was visible

Receive auto-suggested Reflections, all tied directly to what just happened

Each visit to the Dashboard now becomes a momentum builder for the growth of the teacher and the entire class.

A simpler way to start and organize teaching

M2 simplifies how teachers move from planning to teaching.

Teachers now start activities from within Groups, such as “Period 3 Algebra”. All activities that are created within a group can be managed and revisited within the group.

Activities that aren’t tied to a specific group live in a single General group, which means there’s no more cluttered personal activities to manage.

Even though your teaching activities will now live in Groups, they are not visible to any students within the group. Students only ever see the work you assign to them, like Guides and Reflections.

Teaching with M2, now from your phone

Sometimes the easiest device to use is the one already in your pocket. M2 app helps support teachers, making tiered instruction easier with just a mobile device.

With M2 app, teachers can now run M2 teacher activities from phones and tablets:

Start an activity

Receive immediate tips to improve tiered instruction and suggested Guides

All through a simple, mobile-friendly chat experience

During class, teachers can request a check for understanding, discussion questions or classroom management tips with a single tap. After class, they can continue the conversation with M2—reflecting, clarifying feedback, and revisiting important moments, all through a text-based chat.

This mobile experience is intentionally simplified for use during instruction, with no audio output. This keeps the attention on student instruction and participation, not screens.

Reflection to bring clarity

Reflection works best when it’s immediate and conversational.

After class, teachers reflect by talking with M2 via text—on web or mobile—while the lesson is still fresh. They can dig into specific moments, revisit feedback, and analyze strengths and weaknesses of participation.

It’s a reflection that brings clarity and helps teachers come prepared for deeper conversations about their instruction, either on their own or with a coach.

What’s been removed?

To keep M2 focused, several features have been retired:

Whiteboard

Personal groups and personal verbal reflections for teachers

Time-based tips

Verbal Ask M2 inside chat

These changes reinforce a single goal: helping teachers create the conditions for meaningful engagement, every day.

Why M2 matters

M2 isn’t about adding more features. It’s about aligning everything around what actually improves instruction: tiered supports, actionable feedback, and visible engagement.

M2’s purpose has always been simple: to support great teachers in the work they do every day. Since then, we’ve seen the same pattern in classrooms across the country: teachers are resourceful, dedicated, and creative. What they’re often missing is time. With so much to do, understanding which instructional moves are aligned with the research is something that can quickly fall by the wayside.

Administrators see it too. They know strong instruction depends on consistent structure and rigor. But most teachers don’t have a coach in the room to encourage the use of the most effective strategies. Many are teaching new subjects or grade levels with less training than they’d like. This is where the M2’s latest feature can help.

Introducing Whole Group Guides

Whole Group Guides let teachers launch structured, interactive learning activities for the entire class without any student devices or setup time required.

With a few taps, and a chance to share the day’s objective, M2 gets to work. Whole Group Guides include clear verbal directions that lead students through a learning experience aligned with both the lesson of the day and sound pedagogy. As M2 shares directions out loud, the teacher stays in full control, advancing the activity with just a quick tap.

Here’s how a Whole Group Guide might look in an elementary Math class:

The teacher walks up to M2 and taps to request a Guide. She says, “I want my students to practice adding fractions with unlike denominators.” That’s the only prep required.

Seconds later, M2’s voice grabs student attention by introducing the activity. Today, we’ll practice adding fractions by finding the least common denominator. You’ll need a pencil and paper. Let’s get started!

From there, M2 guides students through a few questions and problems aligned with the objective. Today, M2 notices that students can benefit from interleaving, or mixing several problem types together to build flexible thinking.

After each step, students turn to a partner to discuss their thinking. The teacher is free to walk the room, checking in with students, coaching, answering questions, or pulling students aside who need some extra help.

When the Guide ends, the teacher smoothly transitions back to the front and decides to review one problem that sparked extra discussion.

What makes Whole Group Guides different?

No participant setup. Every student is included without extra steps.

Teacher-controlled pace. M2 provides the directions, but teachers shape the timing.

Designed for real classrooms. Activities include individual work, turn-and-talks, and whole-class moments to keep everyone engaged.

More access to the teacher. With M2 managing the flow, teachers can spend more time giving feedback instead of handling logistics.

For administrators seeking stronger instructional consistency across classrooms, Whole Group Guides model well-structured learning in real time. Teachers participate in the experience alongside their students, gaining a feel for the strategy as it unfolds.

Three forms of Whole Group Guides: Practice, projects, and something new

Practice Guides

Students work individually through repetitions of a skill, often pausing to check thinking with a partner or discuss as a class. Useful for reinforcing learning without relying on worksheets.

Project Guides

Collaborative activities where the entire class moves into small groups at once — helpful for hands-on work, labs, shared problem-solving, or building something together. And then there’s the newest option:

Instructional Strategies: research-backed teaching, available in the moment

We heard the same theme from teachers and administrators again and again: they value strategies like Retrieval Practice or Elaboration, but during a lesson, it can be hard to launch them with clear steps and language. Instructional Strategies help with that challenge. When teachers select Instructional Strategy, M2 looks at the lesson objective and materials, then generates a Whole Group Guide built around a proven learning approach. These strategies draw from the work of researchers like Robert Marzano, John Hattie, and decades of cognitive science:

Retrieval Practice to strengthen memory

Elaboration to deepen understanding

Dual Coding to connect visuals and ideas

M2 provides the structure and directions. The teacher brings the expertise, judgment, and support that only a person can provide. For administrators, this means teachers at all levels of experience can model strong instructional practices throughout a lesson. For teachers, it feels like having a prepared partner who can help launch a strategy right when the moment calls for it.

A sustainable way to make every lesson great

Whole Group Guides give teachers more freedom to focus on students. By removing setup, simplifying structure, and offering research-backed steps in real time, M2 helps teachers stay present with their students: circulating, giving feedback, listening in on conversations, pulling small groups, and offering the kinds of support no device can replace. It’s a vision of the classroom where great teaching becomes achievable across the school day because the scaffolding is already built into the experience.

An experiment becomes an intentional practice

Meagan Macdonald is an instructional coach at Barrington School District 220’s middle school. With a staff of 90 teachers, managing effective coaching cycles while offering meaningful reflection time seemed impossible to balance.

For Meagan, their reflection goals were centered around student outcomes. She experimented with the tool after the school’s initial success using MirrorTalk’s voice-guided reflections for students. After completing several “test” reflections, she immediately realized that MirrorTalk could bolster adult learning outcomes as it had done for students.

This breakthrough came when she reflected on a challenging coaching cycle she experienced earlier in the week. “The feedback MirrorTalk gave me was awesome! It was so intuitive and uncovered a lot of assumptions I was making about the situation,” she recalls. “The advice it gave me targeted a specific strategy I could try, helping me quickly turn things around with this teacher.”

Realizing the immense impact it could have on her teachers’ reflective practice, she invited all the teachers she works with to use MirrorTalk. Soon, coaches all over Barrington adopted it for their coaching cycles, too.

MirrorTalk made the impossible, possible

The transition from student tool to coaching asset was natural. One of the biggest challenges in Meagan’s role before had been scheduling meaningful reflection time for teachers within the constraints of everyone’s busy school day. Effective coaching cycles require precise timing for post-observation feedback, which often proved impossible to coordinate.

MirrorTalk helped Meagan and other coaches in her district navigate these complexities by enabling teachers to capture their thoughts immediately after classes when coaches can’t typically be present. Teachers reflect while teaching is fresh and they’re still in their element and MirrorTalk gives them practical advice they can apply in their lessons immediately.

For Meagan, this was a huge turning point: “Every time a teacher gets MirrorTalk feedback with different strategies, instantly they say to themselves ‘hmm, I could try that.

It’s made them so much more receptive to new ideas and strategies when we meet for 1:1 conversations.

Meagan MacDonald | Barrington Middle School, Barrington School District 220

MirrorTalk drastically improved coaching conversations

As Meagan observed, teachers had already started gathering data for themselves with MirrorTalk, which formed the foundation for deeper, more focused coaching conversations when they met with their coaches. Instead of starting from scratch during each meeting, coaches and teachers build on captured data from reflections, leading to more strategic and focused improvement plans.

As Meagan explains, “MirrorTalk instructs teachers to build reflective habits and learn from their own experiences. It helps us move everyone along in the right direction, and make better decisions, faster. When you only have 44 minutes with each teacher, MirrorTalk helps us immediately dive into executing a strategy, rather than ruminating on it.”

MirrorTalk elevated teacher collaboration

As capacity improved, Meagan and her coaches expanded MirrorTalk usage to their PLCs. As each group of teachers completes reflections with MirrorTalk, MirrorTalk automatically generates Group Lessons which provide the coaches general insights on how the group perceives the sessions and considerations for coaches when planning next steps.

These Group Lessons not only impacted 1:1 time with teachers but increased buy-in for their coaching program throughout the district.

Now every time we meet for PLCs, teachers are genuinely excited about the improvements they’re making and come to the table with curiosity about what others are trying. The feedback we get when teachers reflect on their PLCs helps us make this time together more engaging and useful for everyone. It’s a huge win for everyone!

Meagan MacDonald | Barrington Middle School, Barrington School District 220

The changes don’t stop here

By making reflection more accessible and insights more rapid and actionable, MirrorTalk has helped create a healthier professional environment throughout Barrington that bridges crucial gaps in teacher development and coaching capacity.

Best of all, their investment in a student support tool has paid off in unexpected ways: it created a culture where teachers constantly improve, which ultimately benefits the same students who inspired them to adopt the tool in the first place.

In supporting your educators with high-quality professional development tools and strategies, you’ve already experienced how to analyze teaching practice through video with Swivl Robot. But research shows there’s more to professional growth than just capturing classroom moments. A comprehensive review of 35 studies found that the most effective professional development programs consistently include several critical elements: structured reflection time based on content-specific strategies and expert feedback on authentic teaching practices. That’s exactly where M2 + MirrorTalk takes your professional development program to the next level.

Professional development will never be one size fits all with M2

In today’s educational environment, finding time for reflection can seem impossible. Packed schedules, endless testing, and increasing student and administrative demands, squeeze out the very practice research shows is essential for professional growth and job satisfaction. Teachers who engage in regular, guided reflection show significant improvements not only in their instructional effectiveness but also in student outcomes. Perhaps most importantly, the intentionality of regular reflection can alleviate stress and the feelings of burnout that cause many teachers to depart the classroom prematurely.

1. Support teachers daily, while minimizing classroom disruptions

Research confirms that effective professional development leverages feedback on authentic instances of teacher practice, including video recordings and teacher reflections. M2’s high-quality video and audio capture takes everything you love about Robot and enhances it with:

Built-in observations that document real classroom interactions and evidence of student learning

Daily, supportive feedback on teacher instruction, which takes account of student actions and behaviors

Dashboard collecting insights on daily instruction and whole class summaries, establishing patterns and trends for further analysis

M2’s embedded MirrorTalk software amplifies daily observation by:

Creating clear documentation of standards alignment, glows, and grows

Generating custom reflection prompts for teachers aligned with your professional goals

Providing immediate feedback to teachers after reflecting on classroom experiences

A comprehensive study on effective science professional development found that teachers who participated in content-specific, classroom-based professional development saw significantly higher student learning gains compared to those who received general training alone. M2 + MirrorTalk brings this research-backed approach to life by creating a comprehensive system for tracking both student content mastery and analysis of content-specific interventions in every subject area.

Throughout the application of a content-specific intervention strategy, teachers utilize MirrorTalk alongside their students in three stages:

Before the intervention: Teachers reflect on their teaching practices and student understanding

During the intervention: Teachers examine the efficacy of their teaching adaptations

After the intervention: Teachers evaluate the overall impact on student achievement

Incorporation of both teacher and student reflection data gives PD facilitators a more universal view of content-specific intervention efficacy.

Research demonstrates that effective professional development programs create rich learning environments by leveraging positive and constructive feedback in multiple contexts – from coaching sessions to group workshops.

As a coach, you know that professional growth can’t be confined to a few observation cycles per year. Research shows that traditional professional development often fails to create lasting change, with only about 30% of teachers implementing new practices consistently after training. But how do you create a culture where reflection and improvement happen naturally and continuously? The answer lies in tools you already have: M2 + MirrorTalk.

Why reflection matters more than ever

In today’s educational environment, finding time for reflection can seem impossible. Packed schedules, endless testing, and increasing student and administrative demands, squeeze out the very practice research shows is essential for professional growth and job satisfaction. Teachers who engage in regular, guided reflection show significant improvements not only in their instructional effectiveness but also in student outcomes. Perhaps most importantly, the intentionality of regular reflection can alleviate stress and the feelings of burnout that cause many teachers to depart the classroom prematurely.

Three proven ways to support growth

1. Assess starting points

Effective coaching begins with clear baseline data. Capture authentic classroom moments and teachers’ thinking about their experiences to get a precise picture of their current state.

M2’s high-quality video and audio capture makes it seamless to:

Document real classroom interactions and evidence of student learning

Create a baseline evidence of teaching practices

Set the stage for meaningful coaching conversations

MirrorTalk’s reflection experience also sets the baseline for continuous growth with its:

Daily recommendations that help teachers facilitate daily instructional changes

Customized objectives that ensure teachers identify their priorities upfront

Immediate, constructive feedback that motivates teachers to keep up the momentum

M2+MirrorTalk promotes intentional reflection among educators through brief daily moments that build over time. These reflections help prevent burnout by reconnecting teachers with their purpose in the best profession in the world: teaching.

2. Systematically track progress

Studies demonstrate that systematic progress monitoring leads to twice the implementation rate of new teaching practices. With M2 by “systematic” we mean as often as daily, not quarterly or bi-annually. It takes minimal effort and setup to make this a sustainable reality.

M2 delivers in-the-moment support to teachers daily by:

Actively observing the class and generating feedback to support instruction

Tailoring the feedback to teachers’ specific lessons and objectives

Aligning recommendations to the teachers’ goals for that day

Every week, MirrorTalk – embedded on M2 and available on any device – further reinforces the support cycle by:

Teachers engage in talk-based reflection experiences customized to agreed-upon objectives

You can access clear, actionable takeaways through an easy-to-use dashboard

MirrorTalk identifies patterns for you, in seconds

With M2+MirrorTalk coaches gain invaluable insights into mindset, tone, and cognitive bias. It allows you to skip the recall and jump straight into meaningful, targeted discussions with every teacher that drive real growth.

3. Cement feedback in your success strategy

One of the most critical ways to create lasting success in any coaching program is to structure reflection in a way where teachers receive frequent, personalized feedback. Unfortunately, this is not something every coach can provide to every teacher, every day and is a leading cause for their coaching initiatives fizzle out. The right kind of feedback keeps spirits up and encourages teachers to adapt their strategies often which in-turn creates opportunities for you to scale what is working and create a culture in your coaching group where growth is ongoing. Here’s how it’s done:

Scheduling video observations with M2 on a quarterly/semestrial basis ensures formal feedback is structured and aligned with your objectives

Every time teachers use M2 while they teach, they receive personalized and instantaneous feedback on their instruction

Regular feedback from teachers’ MirrorTalk weekly reflections highlights Lessons and patterns that help them adjust their strategies accordingly

M2+MirrorTalk has completely changed how teachers engage with feedback. The moment they receive a meta-analysis with different strategies, they’re instantly thinking, ‘I can try that!’ The ‘Team Learning Summary’—our coaching strategy—has been a game-changer. Every time teachers see it, they get excited to implement new ideas. It’s not just improving their practice; it’s making them more receptive and fully bought into our coaching cycles.

MirrorTalk builds stronger teachers before they enter the classroom

Teacher preparation programs face a critical challenge: nearly 50% of teachers leave the profession within their first three years. While many factors contribute to this exodus, research reveals a powerful insight – the development of strong metacognitive and reflective skills during teacher preparation can dramatically improve retention rates.

Let’s explore why making the most of your MirrorTalk investment, an AI-powered reflection tool designed to help your students think better, learn deeper, and take smarter action could be one of the most important decisions that impact your students’ future careers.

Why do newer teachers struggle to stay?

The first years of teaching can feel like trying to build a plane while flying it. New teachers must simultaneously master their school’s culture and procedures, manage their classroom effectively, and build meaningful relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. But here’s the troubling reality: many find themselves navigating this complex landscape alone.

Research shows that new teachers consistently cite one critical factor in their decision to leave the profession: a lack of support from administrators, colleagues, and community stakeholders. Without experienced mentors to turn to, these educators often feel overwhelmed by the daily challenges of the classroom, leading to burnout and eventual departure from teaching altogether.

The solution, however, may lie not just in external support, but in developing a crucial internal skill before they set foot in a classroom: self-reflection. Think about that for a moment. The difference between staying and leaving the profession often isn’t about the challenges themselves—it’s about how we process and respond to those challenges. Teachers who learn to effectively analyze their practice, solve problems critically, and make confident instructional decisions are better equipped to weather the challenges of those early years. This ability to look within and learn from experience isn’t just helpful—it’s essential for long-term success and satisfaction in education.

Dr. Deborah S. Yost, in her pivotal research, found that teachers who consistently engage in meaningful reflection:

Develop stronger problem-solving abilities for classroom challenges

Build greater confidence in their teaching decisions

Show increased resilience when facing obstacles

Are more likely to stay in the profession long-term

Why do traditional reflection methods fall short?

Despite knowing how crucial reflection is for teacher development, many teacher preparation programs struggle to implement it effectively. The typical approach often reduces reflection to a series of written assignments or post-observation forms—turning what should be a transformative practice into just another box to check.

“Sometimes our students don’t meaningfully reflect because they don’t see the point and don’t expect to receive great feedback, often treating our assignments as checkboxes to pass the course,” notes Dr. Kristen Taylor from the University of Missouri – St. Louis. This mindset undermines the very purpose of reflection as a tool for growth.

Current reflection practices often face three critical challenges:

Time constraints make it difficult for professors to provide timely, personalized feedback on written reflections

Generic prompts and forms fail to guide student teachers toward deeper analytical thinking

Limited opportunities for meaningful dialogue with you or their placement school mentors leave student teachers feeling isolated in their reflective practice

The result? Many new teachers enter the profession without having developed the robust reflection skills they’ll need to navigate classroom challenges successfully. They have “completed their reflections” without truly learning to reflect.

But what if we could transform reflection from a passive requirement into an active, engaging practice in developing metacognition that student teachers actually look forward to? What if we could provide immediate, personalized guidance that helps them develop stronger analytical and problem-solving skills?

MirrorTalk takes them from passive reflection to active metacognition

MirrorTalk transforms reflection from a solitary, written exercise into an engaging, dialogue-based experience that develops real metacognitive skills. By leveraging the natural power of conversation and AI-guided prompts, we create a space where student teachers can think deeply about their practice without feeling overwhelmed or isolated.

Here’s what makes the MirrorTalk approach different:

Natural conversation flow

Beyond traditional assessment: building stronger learners through guided reflection with MirrorTalk

As educators, we’ve all experienced that moment of insight when a student truly grasps a concept – their eyes light up, their explanation flows naturally, and their understanding runs deep. But how often do we catch these moments? And more importantly, how can we create more of them?

Let’s dive deeper into how MirrorTalk reimagines how we can build stronger learners through guided metacognitive development.

Why do traditional assessments fall short?

Traditional assessments give us part of the picture but often leave us waiting weeks or months for meaningful data. Exit tickets provide quick feedback but may not capture the full depth of student understanding. And while formative assessments offer valuable insights, the time required to prepare, administer, and analyze them can be overwhelming.

Consider a typical scenario: You’ve just taught a key concept and want to gauge student understanding. You could:

Wait for the next quiz or test (too late for immediate intervention)

Create and distribute exit tickets (time-consuming)

Review written responses (which often lack depth)

Conduct one-on-one check-ins (impossible to scale)

Since we started using MirrorTalk, we’re seeing our students use more advanced academic vocabulary and go deeper in their explanation about what they’re learning which is improving their comprehension.

Texas-based Instructional Coach

Developing metacognitive skills through guided reflections

MirrorTalk’s guided reflection process serves as a scaffold for developing crucial metacognitive skills that many students struggle to develop on their own. By providing structured prompts, the platform helps students break down their thinking processes, examine their learning strategies, and identify connections between different concepts. This systematic approach to reflection becomes increasingly natural with practice, helping students develop the self-awareness and analytical skills that are fundamental to academic success.

Regular engagement with guided reflection creates a powerful cycle of learning improvement. As students become more comfortable examining their own thinking processes, they develop stronger study habits, better self-assessment skills, and increased confidence in their ability to tackle challenging material. These metacognitive skills extend beyond any single subject area, empowering students to become more effective learners across all their academic pursuits.

Instead of spending hours reviewing student videos and providing feedback, MirrorTalks AI analyzes their responses and helps me quickly identify what needs reteaching. It’s made my workflow so much more sustainable.

Personalized feedback loops for continuous improvement

After each reflection, students receive immediate, constructive feedback that celebrates their insights while providing specific, actionable guidance for their next reflection. This instant response helps maintain student engagement and motivation, while the focused suggestions ensure that each student has a clear path for improvement.

These automated feedback loops complement and enhance the teacher’s role in the classroom. While teachers can’t provide immediate individual feedback to every student after every learning experience, MirrorTalk ensures that students receive consistent guidance and encouragement. The platform’s feedback helps students stay engaged with the reflection process, builds their confidence, and provides stepping stones for deeper metacognitive development, all while giving teachers more time to focus on higher-level instructional strategies and individual student support.
